Upgraded to WordPress 2.9
Just upgraded to WP 2.9, as always, I was a bit late to upgrade my WP. This time was better though, just ten days after the released date (December 19th). Now the coolest new features of this version (according to WP Blog) are:
- Global undo/”trash” feature, which means that if you accidentally delete a post or comment you can bring it back from the grave (i.e., the Trash). This also eliminates those annoying “are you sure” messages we used to have on every delete.
- Built-in image editor allows you to crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images to show them who’s boss. This is the first wave of our many planned media-handling improvements.
- Batch plugin update and compatibility checking, which means you can update 10 plugins at once, versus having to do multiple clicks for each one, and we’re using the new compatibility data from the plugins directory to give you a better idea of whether your plugins are compatible with new releases of WordPress. This should take the fear and hassle out of upgrading.
- Easier video embeds that allow you to just paste a URL on its own line and have it magically turn it into the proper embed code, with Oembed support for YouTube, Daily Motion, Blip.tv, Flickr, Hulu, Viddler, Qik, Revision3, Scribd, Google Video, Photobucket, PollDaddy, and WordPress.tv (and more in the next release).
Are they really cool or what! I haven’t tried any of those yet though! Soon I will, especially the image editing tools… However, just four days after the released date they found a new bug!
Unfortunately, the recent 2.9 release triggered a bug in certain versions of PHP’s curl extension. With these versions of curl, scheduled posts and pingbacks are not processed correctly. To fix this problem as well as a handful of other, lesser issues, we are quickly releasing 2.9.1, the first maintenance release of the 2.9 line.
So be ready for another upgrade. Aiyayaa… so many update!
Another WP Upgrade?
I just upgraded my WP to WordPress 2.8.4 yesterday. I know it’s been there for weeks so I was kinda late to upgrade and guess what? This morning I saw on my dashboard “WordPress 2.8.5 is available! Please update now”. Oh why are they updating so often?
Anyway, like my new look? It’s so easy to apply a new template on WordPress 2.8 (one thing I like the most from this version). Just upload the zip file from dashboard, preview, activate and voila it’s done! I didn’t loose any of my widgets either, they’re kept in Widgets section. All I needed to do was just drag them to the sidebars. WordPress really beats Blogger on this one
. Every time I want to change my blogger blog template, I have to install the widgets one by one.
Unfortunately, this theme doesn’t support threaded comments and gravatar like the previous one. So I had to edited some PHP files in order to make them work. Don’t ask me how I did it, it was a long trial and error process, plus plenty of googling.
Hacking WP theme is really challenging, there’s a different php file for each section. I vote for blogger on this one, their templates are much easier to be customized.
I hope it works fine because I really like the color and header image
Upgraded to WordPress 2.8
I finally managed to upgrade to WordPress 2.8 yesterday. My first attempt to upgrade three days ago had failed due to lack of disk space, so I needed to upgrade my hosting plan first. Before, I used the cheapest hosting plan available at a local hosting company, with only US$5 per year I got 25MB disk space and 1Gb monthly bandwidth. Now after upgrade I have 100MB disk space with 4GB monthly bandwidth, it costs me about US$15 per year. It’s still cheap, I think.
Anyway, after upgrading my hosting plan I immediately upgraded my site to WordPress 2.8. Here’s what I did:
- First, I deactivated all plugins at my WP dashboard
- Second, I went to Control Panel and upgraded using Fantastico Deluxe
- Lastly, I reactivated all of my plugins
That’s it, all done within minutes! That was my first time upgrade experience and I didn’t know it was so easy to be done. So far everything is going fine including my theme and plugins. I didn’t have to reinstall anything. Now that I have extra space left I may try to add some more plugins

Another Malware Attack ~ Upgrade Your WP!
I was doing my dropping round last night when Avast warned me of a Trojan Horse found in a particular blog. The malware’s name was JS:Small-C[Trj]. Unlike last time when I found Trojan already infected my computer, this time, luckily, Avast managed to stop it before it entered my computer.
I went to Avast forum and found (at least) two threads about this here and here. Apparently this malware has attacked some websites that still running old version of WP. So if you haven’t upgraded your WP to 2.9.1 better do it now (duh) before it’s too late.
Also make sure you have the latest version of anti-virus or anti-malware software running on your computer to make sure you’re protected from these malicious activities. Dropping hundred of blogs everyday is a risky business, don’t you think so?
