Upgraded to WordPress 2.8

I finally managed to upgrade to WordPress 2.8 yesterday. My first attempt to upgrade three days ago had failed due to lack of disk space, so I needed to upgrade my hosting plan first. Before, I used the cheapest hosting plan available at a local hosting company, with only US$5 per year I got 25MB disk space and 1Gb monthly bandwidth. Now after upgrade I have 100MB disk space with 4GB monthly bandwidth, it costs me about US$15 per year. It’s still cheap, I think.

Anyway, after upgrading my hosting plan I immediately upgraded my site to WordPress 2.8. Here’s what I did:

  • First, I deactivated all plugins at my WP dashboard
  • Second, I went to Control Panel and upgraded using Fantastico Deluxe
  • Lastly, I reactivated all of my plugins

That’s it, all done within minutes! That was my first time upgrade experience and I didn’t know it was so easy to be done. So far everything is going fine including my theme and plugins. I didn’t have to reinstall anything. Now that I have extra space left I may try to add some more plugins :)

Start From The Scratch Again

Yesterday I spent hours moving my blog to a new hosting service, mind you this is the first time I use self-hosted blog so I didn’t know much about it. I use the same local company where I bought my domain. I personally don’t like the idea of using the same company for two services altogether because if their service is suck I’ll be double wrecked.

Anyway, so far I’m quite satisfied with their service. They’re fast and promptly respond to my queries. I’m not going to credit or recommend them now since I’m still new with them, but we’ll see maybe later after few months I’ll feature them here if the service is still good.

I’m not saying that the old free hosting service is totally bad, let’s just say I wasn’t lucky because less than a month using their service my server already down several times. That was not good for I was just starting to promote this blog to some directories. But I know some bloggers who really enjoy their service.

Now that I use paid service I have to carefully plan and watch my blog size and traffic targeting because everything is limited now. I deleted some unused themes and plug ins. Anyway, for the next few days I’ll probably busy tweaking this blog again because I lost all the setting I made before. Oh I hate to start from the scratch again :(
