Our Christmas Theme This Year: Blue!

Blue Christmas balls and garlandsI love decorating the house (and dressing up the kids) for Christmas. I think Christmas is the best time to add colors to the house, don’t you think so? Not just the traditional red, green, silver and gold Christmas colors, but any color we like.

Our Christmas theme color for this year is blue! We had “Blue Christmas” too last year, so we actually “back to blue” theme. But last year there were not so many blue items I could find, or like. I did not even have enough blue ornaments for our tree and had to combine them with silver. I also did not really like the blue clothes for my kids, but got no choice so I bought them anyway. That is why I decided to use blue again this year.

Now is much better. Last week I already bought several new blue ornaments to be added to our tree along with blue candles, blue toys for the kids and blue clothes for all of us. My hunt for blue items ended today with a new set of blue table mats, napkins and some other items for our dining table that will match to our blue dinner set from last year.

It’s Beginning To Look Like Christmas

Our Christmas Tree

Our Christmas Tree

Look what we found when we came back from dinner last night… a Christmas tree. Finally, we had a Christmas tree in our living room.

It was a little bit late, you might say. It was! However with hectic days we had for the last couple of weeks, we really didn’t have time to decorate the house, even just to put up our small Christmas tree. Initially we planed to decorate the house two weeks ago but then My husband was occupied in the office till late, while me busy with the baby and son’s school and Sunday school’s events. Everything seemed to be piled up at the last days of the year.

That’s why I was so happy when my dear nephew volunteered to to install our Christmas tree. He was in school break and came to the house yesterday afternoon. His first intention was to show off introduce his current girlfriend but when he saw no Christmas tree he said they would do it for us.

I joked to my nephew that years ago his dad (my cousin) was doing the same thing to my mom. He came to the house with his girlfriend and decorated our Christmas tree, but at the end he didn’t marry that girl! They just laughed when I told that. Later we left the house for dinner so those two love birds could enjoy their time alone while trimming our Christmas tree :) .

When we came back we already had a Christmas tree in our living room, built with love by two teens! It hasn’t finished yet as there were still some decors I wanted to add. Still, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our house :) .

Time To Decorate The House

Two weeks before Christmas, we finally started to decorate the house. It’s a little bit late because we’ve been busy preparing for my son’s Christmas event at school this Saturday. He will dance and sing that day and needs new clothes, shoes, also a Santa’s hat. We already bought them all during weekend. I also took times to see his rehearsals yesterday and seemed he did fine. This is going to be his first Christmas performance at school so I try to support him whenever I can.

Anyway, for our house Christmas decoration we decided to focus on the baby as we believe he will still become the center of anyone’s attention who come to our house during Christmas holiday. So we’re not going to decorate the whole house, only a few spots where we always put our baby, like the baby’s room, dining room and a corner in our living room. It will save our energy and money too compare to decorate the whole house.

10122009005There will be a lot of stuff toys like in the picture as we already bought some. And when I told our cousins that we’re looking for Christmas stuff toys for the baby, they promised to bring some of theirs for him. It will be fun to see the baby surrounded by those little cute toys :)

Long Weekend, An Early Christmas Shopping

It’s a long weekend here in Indonesia due to Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha yesterday or some people will refer it as Lebaran Haji (Hajj Celebration Day). We have several Muslim relatives in our extended family, so we took time to visit and greet them yesterday. The first stop was to my SIL house, they are hajjes, so the day was even more special for them. She cooked plenty of special “mouth watering, spicy and filled with coconut milk” Lebaran food, such as ketupat, rendang, opor, sambal, etc. They looked delicious and very tempting! I said “tempting” because I could only see. I’m avoiding such food because I’m still nursing my baby, so ended up just having some fruits :( . Lucky husband and son, they really had a great time eating.

We made another two stops after my SIL before we headed to the nearest mall to do our first Christmas shopping for this year. My husband was not really sure with the idea, he said it was still November so too early for Christmas shops. But I insisted to give it a try. It only less than a month before Christmas, I argued. Besides, I was hungry after seeing those delicious food earlier, so I wanted to eat something at the mall.

It turned out my husband was right, there were only few Christmas items displayed at the mall yesterday. In fact the mall itself haven’t decorated for Christmas. I saw some stores began to unpack their Christmas stock but they were not ready for sale, others were still plain. I guess, like my husband said, it was still November, so too early for Christmas shopping! Or maybe we just went to the wrong mall. Anyway, I’m glad he didn’t say the words, “told ya!”

The only store that was ready for Christmas was… ACE-Hardware! which was definitely not on my list of stores I wanted to visit. However, we went in anyway and wasted some money bought not really necessary some Christmas decors and lights. I was actually looking for some new clothes for us to wear on Christmas and some baby items with Christmas theme on it.

Then we went to Pizza Hut for late lunch, but since the boys were still full from my SIL house, I just ordered take away bruschetta, pizza and milkshake for my late lunch. After that we went home. So much for my first Christmas shopping. I’ll try different mall tomorrow :) .
