No More Facebook!
It’s now become official, no more facebook in my office! Many have complained about their co-workers been busy updating their status on facebook instead of doing their jobs. Others suspected that the internet connection became slow lately due to many employees opening facebook.
Last week the IT department issued a report to the management about internet stats per user in our office. The result, of course, the most accessed page was facebook! Almost all users opened and updated their facebook status everyday (if not every minutes, including those who all this time complained about their neighbors, lol). The management then decided to block access to facebook starting Monday (yesterday) in order to keep employees focus on their job.
Anyway, I’m not a really fan of facebook, I don’t open my facebook everyday, so I wasn’t included in “facebook addicts” category in the report. They put me in “active browsers” category. I guess that’s how they interpreted my dropping ec habit. Yes, sometimes I drop ec in my office if I couldn’t finish it at home the night before.
Statistics said Indonesia was ranked 5th among countries with highest number of Facebook users, almost 15 million users! I wonder how many percent of those users using their office computer

My New Toy
I finally got my new laptop this week
. Well, it’s not really mine, it’s my office’s. Last month when I was still on leave my boss told me to search for a new laptop since my old HP is already out of date. Later I told her that my choice was either HP Pavilion dv4-1532TX Moonlight White or HP Pavilion dm3-1028TX.
It should have been ready on the first day I came back to work two weeks ago if our new IT guy just approved one of my choices. Instead he told our GA department to hold and waited until I came because he wanted to talk to me first.
Later he told me the specs of those two laptops were too high for legal department. But I said those laptops were within $1,100 budget. He said he had a list of cheaper laptop with the same or lesser specs. WTF! I told him if that was the case, then my boss shouldn’t bother to call me during my leave on the first place. Just bought any laptop they wanted and surprised me later!
Anyway, I insisted. There was a reason why I was called to search for my own laptop which was because my boss trusted my choice. Finally, it was settled. Earlier this week my new toy arrived. It’s an HP Pavilion dv4-1532TX Moonlight White bundled with Windows 7 Home Premium. The HP symbol on the cover will glow when turned on. Beautiful isn’t it? I should be very careful with it though, as it’s in all white including the keyboard so it’s easy to get dirty.
So it’s time to say good bye to my old lappy. It’s not easy though, since I’ve been using that laptop for over five years, so it’s almost like a soul mate to me. She witnessed my up and down mood at work, sometimes I slapped her when I was upset (oops). I’m gonna miss you lappy
And welcome new lappy! Hopefully we’re gonna have fun working together for (at least) the next five years
I Found The Laptop I Want!
As I mentioned in previous post I was asked to look for a new laptop for my office work. Since I haven’t followed the latest development in computer technology for quite awhile, I spent almost two days searching on the net to get information about the latest laptop. I also asked my brother and his IT geek friends’ opinions, and called my computer distributors to find out about their stocks and prices. Finally, this morning I emailed my purchase request to the office. I gave them two choices of laptop.
My first choice is HP Pavilion dv4-1532TX Moonlight White from HP Pavilion dv4t entertainment series
Take a look at her, isn’t she a beauty?
HP Pavilion dv4-1532TX comes in two color choices espresso black and moonlight white. I chose the white one. It’s a Core2 Duo laptop with 3GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVD±RW, NIC, WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint, VGA NVIDIA GeForce G105M 512MB, Camera, 14.1″ WXGA, and genuine Win7 Home Premium.
The distributor’s quote was US$ 1,160 or US$60 higher than the company’s US$ 1,100 budget, but I’m sure our purchasing department can handle this. That was their first quote anyway so we still can bargain. Below is its detail specifications.
Platform Notebook PC with Intel Centrino Duo Technology Processor Type Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Processor Onboard Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor P7550 (2.26 GHz, FSB 1066, Cache 3 MB) Chipset Intel 45PM Standard Memory 3GB DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM) Max. My second choice is HP Pavilion dm3-1028TX from HP Pavilion dm3t series.
There’s no color choice in this series, all come in black. HP Pavilion dm3-1028TX is claimed to have stamina to go all day! It is powered by Intel’s ultra-low-voltage with Core2 Duo SP9300, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, NIC, WiFi, Bluetooth, VGA NVIDIA GeForce G105M 512MB, Camera, 13.3″ WXGA, External DVD±RW, Win7 Home Premium.
Its dimension is only 32.6 x 3.18 x 23 cm and weight 1.91 kg. Much smaller and lighter than the dv4t series which is good for me! However naturally its display size is also smaller which only 13.3″ compare to dv4t series that has 14.1″ screen.
The distributor’s quote for this model was US$ $1,060 so it’s still under the company’s US$ 1,100 budget. Here’s its detail specifications.
Platform Notebook PC Processor Type Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Processor Onboard Intel® Core™2 Duo processor SP9300 (2.26 GHz, FSB 1066, Cahce 6 MB) Chipset Intel 45GS Standard Memory 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM PC-8500 Max. There! I’ve done my job looking for a new laptop. Now it’s up to the company which one they are going to buy. Whatever their choice is I will not be able to use it until I come back to work next month. Still three weeks left to enjoy my leave
