Spammers Copying Comments?
Today was the day to clean up my spam folder. It becomes my routine to get rid of spams every time I saw their numbers already exceeded the amount of real comments. And shame on me, I was almost fooled by spammers today.
As usual those spams mostly contained a bunch of unreadable characters, or some foreign languages with “cialis” and “viagra” mentioned several times, or the endless “I bookmarked your blog” comments. However, today I also saw few familiar comments among those spams, comments that were previously approved and published. So I thought they were accidentally being marked as spam and (without thinking twice) I just re-approved them.
It took awhile for me to realize something was wrong (yes I was slow, thankfully Askimet was not). I knew I made big mistakes republishing those comments when I saw a girl name was used for a guy author. Here’s the comment:
That spammer copied the content of my published comments along with the commentluv codes, but somehow failed to get the original author’s name, and resubmitted them. I wonder if this will become a trend for them.
Anyway, so I ended up finding those recently republished comments, remarked them as spam then deleted them. Luckily they were all under two names, Amy and Michelle (why use girl names by the way), so it was easy enough for me to find them back. I wonder if there’s a way to kick those spammers out before they managed to leave comments because I’m getting tired deleting these spams.

the names you mentioned are quite common names so probably, that’s the reason why the spammer used them.

I guess so, just wonder why not use john, bill or mike instead of girls name
Yes, it’s extremely annoying. I found your post while researching the topic. I’m glad Askimet stops these, but it does make the task of deleting them much slower, because I have to double check to make sure they’re not legitimate before erasing them.
Yes it took longer to clean up. But so far they only use Amy and Michelle, so I only doubled check if I found those names in my spams
Yep, I’m seeing those too. I let a few slide because they sounded so normal, but then I remembered I’d seen those comments before. God, why do these people have to be so persistent?!?!?

Annoyingly persistent
I wish there’s something to stop them coming to our blogs
Yes..here too. In the past three months, I noticed a huge increase of spam comments in my food blog, specially in characters that seem to be Chinese. Well at least they are Chinese for me, I don´t understand them at all. Every day I receive 5/6 of these in my food blog. It´s really annoying.

Plenty of Chinese and recently I got them in Hebrew too
I have people who make a comment that has nothing to do with my blog post. They just comment about their product or website and use my post as free advertising. I immediately delete their comments when I notice them. I haven’t received anything in a strange language yet.

I get quite a few of those too, the spammer copies part of a previous comment. I didn’t realise at first, but now I watch out for them.
The other thing I get is spammers Googling my post title and commenting with a couple of sentences copied from Wikipedia.

Gosh darn these spammers. Getting so much more clever with their evil methods of evilness. I always look over comments very carefully, but even then some gets through. Fortunately, I get little comments, so it’s easier to weed out spammers.

I also noticed good thing, I recognize immediately that they are spams because of the names.
I am also looking for a way to get rid of spammer before they infiltrate my comment box. It is so tiring to check them everyday. sigh!
