Trying To Fix My Browser Error
I spent hours in front of my laptop yesterday trying to fix my browser error. It was started about a month ago, I think, when I noticed my Firefox began to freeze more frequent. Then I got more and more page load errors messages and being redirected to urlseek.vmn.net.
After being annoyed for weeks, I decided to search on Google about this problems. Google said it could be caused by some Firefox add-ons, in my case was Search Setting add-on. I don’t even know how it got there! Anyway, I uninstalled the plugin and problem solved… for two minutes… after that it started again
.
This time it redirected me to myfamily.com. It happened every time I tried to access a “.com” url. For example, I could access adgitize.net but I couldn’t go to adgitize.com, the url automatically became adgitize.com/isapi.dll?c=home&htx=loginfrontmember. This time I couldn’t find a clear solution from Google. It did said many possible causes like malware, virus, and DNS poisoning, but no solution. What is DNS poisoning anyway? I read its definition in Wikipedia but still don’t understand it.
So I tried to uninstall and reinstall my FF, run Spybot, change my internet security setting, etc but didn’t help. I wanted to try HijackThis but couldn’t download the installer file because it redirected me to myfamily.com. Then I checked my internet protocol and found that my DNS servers were set to automatic. I reconfigured it by inputting DNS address from my ISP and voila… problem solved!
Is it really over? I’m not sure though, but at least now I can access any site without being redirected to myfamily.com again. Hopefully, it will stay that way because I don’t know what to do anymore. I may will reinstall my XP if that happens. I can download HijackThis now but not sure what to do with it, looks too complicated to me. Has anyone had this problem before? Is it DNS poisoning? What else I have to do?
