Planning to Upgrade to WordPress 2.8

I was checking out my WP dashboard when the “WordPress 2.8 is available! Please update now.” announcement on top of it captured my attention. It was not the first time I saw it since it’s been there for a few days, I think, but I never paid attention to it. However, this time I decided to try it.

Since I’m still new with self-hosted WordPress and this is going to be my first upgrade experience, I looked through the help pages first. Apparently there’s a lot of things to do before upgrading. First, I need to backup (off course) my site, then have to find out whether the themes and plugins I’m using are compatible with WP 2.8, and so on… Sounds complicated enough. Anyway, I’ll let you know when I’m finished (that’s if I decide to continue the upgrading plan) :) .

I just upgraded to WP 2.8 yesterday thru automatic upgrade. Updating was done in three minutes and as of this time everything is working fine including my plugins.

I hope everything will be fine when you decided to upgrade.

Hi Vlad, thanks for the info. I tried using automatic upgrade but failed, it said:
Could not create directory: /home/alittleb/public_html/wp-content/upgrade/core/wordpress/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/media/css
Installation Failed

Not sure why, will check again later, still want to upgrade though :)

Hmmmm, Is this the first time you upgrade?

I think the problem is due to your directory files is not writable or something to that effect. Just my guess.

I hope that everything will be fine when you do the manual upgrade.

Yes, it’s my first time to upgrade. I just checked, apparently I don’t have enough disk space (oops) so I need to upgrade my hosting plan first before upgrading my WP. I will do both later today. Thanks again :)
