My Kid Misses His School

My son’s long school break has only been going on for two weeks but it seems he missed his school already. Every morning he would ask me or my mom if he had class that day. And when we informed him that the school was closed for six weeks he would say, “Why so long?” Sometimes during the day he would call me on the office and asked if he had homework or if he would go to school the next day.

This is the first school holiday for him as he just started schooling this year. I have to admit I never thought he would react like this. For this school holiday I solely rely on my brother to entertain my son. My brother is still single and works as a teacher so his holiday is the same as my son. He already took my son to various places during the last two weeks, but my son still missed his school.

We’re planning on enrolling him to an art course next week. Hopefully it will keep him busy and forget about his own school for awhile.

Upgraded to WordPress 2.8

I finally managed to upgrade to WordPress 2.8 yesterday. My first attempt to upgrade three days ago had failed due to lack of disk space, so I needed to upgrade my hosting plan first. Before, I used the cheapest hosting plan available at a local hosting company, with only US$5 per year I got 25MB disk space and 1Gb monthly bandwidth. Now after upgrade I have 100MB disk space with 4GB monthly bandwidth, it costs me about US$15 per year. It’s still cheap, I think.

Anyway, after upgrading my hosting plan I immediately upgraded my site to WordPress 2.8. Here’s what I did:

  • First, I deactivated all plugins at my WP dashboard
  • Second, I went to Control Panel and upgraded using Fantastico Deluxe
  • Lastly, I reactivated all of my plugins

That’s it, all done within minutes! That was my first time upgrade experience and I didn’t know it was so easy to be done. So far everything is going fine including my theme and plugins. I didn’t have to reinstall anything. Now that I have extra space left I may try to add some more plugins :)

Planning to Upgrade to WordPress 2.8

I was checking out my WP dashboard when the “WordPress 2.8 is available! Please update now.” announcement on top of it captured my attention. It was not the first time I saw it since it’s been there for a few days, I think, but I never paid attention to it. However, this time I decided to try it.

Since I’m still new with self-hosted WordPress and this is going to be my first upgrade experience, I looked through the help pages first. Apparently there’s a lot of things to do before upgrading. First, I need to backup (off course) my site, then have to find out whether the themes and plugins I’m using are compatible with WP 2.8, and so on… Sounds complicated enough. Anyway, I’ll let you know when I’m finished (that’s if I decide to continue the upgrading plan) :) .

When The Nature Is Not At Your Side

This is the follow up of my last post. As mentioned I’ve been busy taking care of my mom’s renovation plan. Date has been set, the renovation will be started on Monday. Plan for this weekend is packing and moving some of my mom’s furniture and other stuff temporarily to a rented house. We can only move some of them since my mom has a lot of big and heavy furniture, it will cost a lot of work (and money) if we try to move them all.

We already got the rented house we need. It’s a bit expensive but big enough to fit the furniture and only 5 minutes drive from my mom’s house so I thought it’s still ok. We called a car rental and booked a truck for today and tomorrow. Also we arranged some people to come and help with the packing and moving job for today and tomorrow. We are so on schedule :) (I thought).

Then it happened… rain! Not just rain, it’s a heavy long hour rain. It’s been happening since the last two days now, rain falls every day. But it’s June, aren’t we supposed to be in dry season? What happen if we continue having rain for the next couple of weeks? I can’t (or don’t want to) imagine it because we’re going to remodel the roof and if heavy rain falls the second floor will be flooded! Should I delay the almost perfect plan? Oh!

A Busy Week Ahead

I’ve been busy for the last couple of days, there’s a lot of things needed to be done by the end of the week. I even took a day off on Monday to settle my personal things. Here’s the summary of what I did during the last two days:

  1. Monday morning I went to my son’s school to register him for the next school year, he’ll be on kindergarten. When I was there I saw my son and his classmates were rehearsing for their graduation day next week. Yes, even a Pre-K kid now has a graduation ceremony. They were so cute… and a little bit out of order, lol. I can’t wait to see them on the grad day.
  2. After that I went to a laboratory to have some tests concerning my pregnancy. During my first pregnancy, my OB/GYN ordered me to do lab test because of many complications happened. As for this second pregnancy everything has been going on smoothly, no doctor’s order for lab test. So this time the lab test was based on my own initiative. I just want to make sure that both the baby and me are fine. I will get the result and hand it over to my OB/GYN tomorrow.
  3. In the afternoon I had an appointment with a contractor who will do a renovation job for my mom’s house. The house has been practically abandoned ever since my father got stroke many years ago. Now, two years after he died, my mom has decided to renovate it and she asked me to deal with the renovator. That was our second meeting and I managed to close a good deal with them. The renovation will start next week.
  4. Monday night I was so tired and not in the mood for blogging. It got worse since I received so many error messages when I tried to do my Adgitize round, apparently it was down for a few minutes. I still managed to get full 100 points for publisher click though, but failed to make a post for that day, so no article points for June 1st.
  5. Yesterday evening I spent time checking several rented houses nearby. We need to rent a house to store some of my parents’ furniture and other things during the renovation. I wasn’t satisfied with all houses recommended by my husband and my brother yesterday, so they will need to survey more houses. The renting and moving things must be done this week because next week the contractor will start the job.

Yes, it’s going to be a busy week!
