For the last few weeks the name and face of Daisy Fajarina has been endlessly mentioned and showed up on our media. You can see her on TV stations, newspapers, tabloids, and internet. I’m not sure about radios because I hardly turn on my radio, maybe they do broadcast about her. And to tell you the truth I’m getting tired with the media reactions toward this case.
Daisy reported that her daughter, Manohara Pinot, an ex Indonesian model, had been kidnapped (??) and sexually abused by her son in law, a prince from Kelantan, Malaysia. She also said she was not allowed to call nor meet her daughter whom now residing in Kelantan. Now Daisy is trying to get support from anywhere to save her daughter, such as the police department, house of representative, Komnas HAM, even the vice president (oops, sorry Daisy, JK has been busy campaigning now maybe you can call him later).
As an Indonesian and a mother too, at first I was really mad when hearing this news. I’m sick every time I hear man torturing woman, not to mention that he’s a prince (not a prince charming obviously). However, as a lawyer I know we need enough evidence before we started to accusing someone. Sadly, after weeks since the first time this case showed up, I still don’t see don’t see any good ground (at least for me) to blame the prince, it’s still her words against him!
Anyway, what I can learn from this case is:
- Mothers, always protect your daughters (or sons), especially when they still around you! Because it’s much difficult if they’re beyond your reach.
- Make sure they’re mature enough before you’re marrying them off. Manohara was barely 17 when she got married.
- Know your daughters/sons’ future family especially when they come from different country. Each family have different customs or culture, not to mention a royal family. Somehow I can understand if there’s some kind of procedure for Daisy to follow when she wants to see her daughter.
- They are your children not your source of gold! Notes: I’m not referring to anyone about this one.
